Google has been identified as the most visited site of 2011 in US, with Facebook coming second, according to the survey conducted by Nielsen
This survey shows that more than 153 million visitors clicked on Google branded pages each month of year 2011 whereas 138 million users visited Facebook.
Yahoo attracted 130 million visitors each month and came third, the BBC report warned that if youth continued to turn away from web-based email then yahoo’s tally might be at risk.
The survey has been carried out with the data collected between January and October, visits from home and work computers are included in the final list. It involved a sample from a global panel of 200,000 people.
Although Google left Facebook behind in the most popular web brand race but it’s social network Google+ came far behind from Facebook in Nielsen’s ranking of the most popular social networks.
Google+ came eighth with 8.02m unique monthly visitors in the most popular social networks list.
YouTube has been recognized as the most popular site for online videos which attracted more than three times the number of monthly visitors as the music video service Vevo.
The survey carried out by Nielsen prepared a list for the number of visitors to various websites:
1. Google: 153,441,000
2. Facebook: 137,644,000
3. Yahoo: 130,121,000

It’s sort of to be expected really. It’s the best (or most popular) search engine on the web and I imagine a lot of users have it set as their home page.
