In order to leverage itself and take on the competitor’s, Google+ finally unveiled Brand Pages. The Brand pages will enable businesses and brands to join the social networking powered by Google.
“So far Google+ has focused on connecting people with other people,” Google SVP of Social Vic Gundotra opened up in a blog post. “But we want to make sure you can build relationships with all the things you care about—from local businesses to global brands—so today we’re rolling out Google+ Pages worldwide.”
In the design field, the brand pages of Google+ appears to be exactly similar to the Google + profile, except for a distinguishing square icon which denotes it’s a page instead of a profile. It enables users to add brands like Fox News, the Dallas Cowboys and Angry Birds to their circles, explore their information and browse their photos. Brand added by any user into their circle, increases the brand’s follower count.
The launch partners for Google comprises of Angry Birds, CNN, Fox News, the Muppets, the Dallas Cowboys, Pepsi, Toyota, Macy’s, X Games, WWE, Train, Barcelona Football Club and Save the Children.
The moment Google launched Google +, all the brands jumped to profit from the opportunity and increase the chances of added exposure. Having different plans in mind, Google soon asked the corporate to stop making Google+ profiles. The subsequent controversy made it entirely imperative for Google to accelerate the plans for business page or branded pages.
