Apple maps might not be the best mapping app available on iPad and iPhone but after Apple’s mapping app was screwed up by iPad and iPhone users, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said in a statement that they are having huge plans for their mapping service to provide a better user experience and to compete Google maps which is the most widely-used mapping service across the globe.
In Bloomberg Businessweek interview, CEO Cook was asked a question by a reporter that whether Apple gave preference to corporate strategy over user experience, while he avoided the question directly but said that Apple always desired to integrate those freatures like voice incorporation, turn by turn directions, etc into their products that would enhance the customer experience and for that they have to launch a service itself.
Apple chief also clarrified that it was not strategically crucial to not to wok with Google(however, he did not name the company) and admitted that their Mapping App did not meet their prospects.
So, What’s Apple planning to do now?
We’re putting all of our energy into making it right. And we have already had several software updates. We’ve got a huge plan to make it even better. It will get better and better over time. But it wasn’t a matter that we … decided strategy over customers. We screwed up. That’s the fact.
After the less encouraging response of their iOS6 maps, Apple published a post on their official website in which they apologized for not providing the users with the best experience which was expected from iOS6 maps and falling short on its assurance.
Apple chief further added that, more than half a billion regions have been seen by Apple inc. in a week of iOS 6 maps app launc, there is no doubt that this has been assisted by around 100 millions users which updated their devices to operate Apple’s mapping service.
While Apple is making many enhancements in iOS6 maps, Cook recommened iPhone and iPad users to try out some other alternatives from other App store like MapQuest or Waze or may try out mapping app from Google or Nokia.
