With the launch and humungous growth of Google Plus, many people have begun to think that Facebook’s reign of the social networking world may be (relatively)soon close to be being over. Is this because people are infatuated with Google Plus? Or because of people disdain hatred for Facebook (some people, not everybody) and what the new social platform can do to their lives.
A lot can be learned from the last F8 conference. Mark Zuckerberg, even though he can be really “awkward” (I guess that just depends on what you think awkward really means), has all ears on him once the big screen of Facebook appears behind him, and he’s walking back forth on stage – you pay full attention. This is true whether you think he is being awkward or not. This is because you know that what he is saying is going to be important. Anyways, I digress, but this brings me to my first point…
1) F8 and the new design of Facebook, which will be called Timeline strongly shows that they just have a tremendous head start in social network world. They have more insight to the nature of the beast – the online social world. And since the foundation of their product was built upon human relationships and how we interact, it is where everything is heading.
In contrast, Google’s foundation is search. “Search” VS “Social” are two different things that define us as human beings. Who will win? It is such an interesting story and one that may take many years to figure out.
2) Facebook Does have a search provider on their side. Even though it’s not the biggest one, having Bing on their side may perhaps lead to playing a huge role in how “Social” meets “Search” This is what Google is trying to do right now.
3) People have a Facebook addiction. It is a huge part of our lives. For a lot of people in the world, Facebook is just as important as waking up and eating breakfast in the morning. This is especially true in the teen world. Teenagers can be totally consumed with Facebook. Google Plus may have more than 25 million users, but Facebook users are on Facebook more than any other website.
4) It took Google Plus 16 Days to hit 25 million users, but would those users be there if it wasn’t for the search giants already humungous platform of users. Even though Facebook’s growth was much slower, it was growth that fundamentally grew because of its ability to connect people. Google’s growth is due to the fact that they can put a little blue arrow on the biggest search engine in the world’s homepage that advertises their new social platform.
That being said, this may also be Google’s largest advantage. This is because they can continue to work on Google Plus until they get it right basically free of charge. They are basically free rolling now, and that is giving them a lot of time and a lot of data to do whatever they want with Google Plus.
5) People love the Facebook story. People loved that it started on the college scene. It used to be an awesome and exclusive way to brag that you went to college, and to meet others that were on the same campus as you. People loved the story so much, that it kicked off a great movie – a movie that had all the different kinds of drama from life that you could ever ask for.
As Mark Zucherberg said in one of his many Interviews said: “When you make a great product, one that people love, you can afford to make a lot of mistakes.” You will notice that everybody always hates the new Facebook updates at first, but sooner or later, everybody begins to love them – Just like the News Feed. We’ll just have to see if that trend continues with the rollout of “Timeline.”

Great post !! with these great features facebook is having, it would never be possible for the google plus to go ahead of facebook
You need to give The Google Plus a chance. The doors have not even been open yet. Imagine for a second The Facebook gave away tons of private information time and time again. Then I would say that its only a matter of time before people start moving to The Google Plus.
FreezeCrowd, remember this college social network is now live.
Facebook took the lead for two reasons:
– lack of competition
– clean and intuitive interface
Currently, both of those items are no longer true, which is what makes this rather an interesting topic.
The thing about being on the top of the mountain is that there’s only one place to go. That’s why they need to keep trying to improve and meet client needs.
As for Zucherburg’s comment, sounds a lot like what the big 3 automakers said for 20 years. MySpace had millions of subs and no one thought it would die, yet Facebook took them out.
Reason 6: Google decided NOT to offer people the CHOICE to use “usernames” instead of real names.
[…] 5 Reasons Why Google Plus Will Never Replace Facebook […]
1) Timeline is a huge Privacy Concern.
2) Bing sucks! (for god’s sake they copied Google’s search results at one point!).
3) Facebook addiction?? Really? Mark Zuckerburg “Yeah guys, no worries about doing anything now, we’ll just rely on people’s addiction.” The man is knee-deep with changes hoping he won’t lose anyone.
4) Not a disadvantage, AT ALL.
5) Sorry, not everyone on FB knows its history. Even so you cannot accredit this to anything, since the only real reason it became popular was because it offered an alternative for people to connect with each other without feeling discriminated, like the ill-fated Myspace that the majority felt was exclusively for the wannabe-cool children and pedophiles of its age.
Its not going anywhere for a while. the main reason is, simply put, it has established itself pretty solidly with people around the world, and Mark has done a great job with putting effort into making it grow. Google + is nowhere near its popularity, as of yet, but whats in a name? Eventually every kingdom sees its end at the hands of another.
well, ok. Let me just +1 this article seen as I can’t Facebook “like” it (there is no option on this page). People are addicted to Social Networks in general, regardless of it’s name or god awful story behind it, search integration or whether or not the site is going through an identity crisis or not. I’m sorry mate, but not one of your points is a good enough reason as to why g+ will fail.
Lets start off point by point shall we,and before we begin lets disclose that i really enjoy Facebook AND Google+ so my comment is directed at your all or nothing black and white “one has to lose” mentality.
1) New Features, i’ve had Timeline enabled for a few days and i think most people will like it after the initial shock wears off. I feel like this is pretty much your only valid reason citing benefit to Facebook.
2) This is kinda irrelevant in my opinion TO THE END USER, because people dont join social networks for better search capability, however the COMPANIES want to improve search with how people are SOCIAL-ing…i hope that makes sense.
3) I can handle this one in one word: Myspace ….want two words? Myspace, Friendster 🙂
4)This pretty much confirms for me that you either are not a active G+ user or didnt really engage with it. The first 16 days (90 actually) it was invite only and while yes, there was hype around it, it wasnt “advertised” on the google homepage etc. So you must give it its due, 25 million that fast is a nice accomplishment, took Facebook a year to do that.
5) And THIS is the point that lets me know i’m dealing with your biased subjectivity…really? People log onto Facebook everyday because they just cant help how much they LOVE the backstory, “oh man i gotta get me some of this college startup warm fuzzy vibes, i better log on to facebook!”
In conclusion if you’ll actually try and use G+ instead of subjectively comment on it, you’ll see that it actually functions in ways that are very different than FB even tho both are “social networks”. For me personally my FB time is spent catching up and keeping up with existing friends and family. G+ experience has been about “meeting” and interacting with new people i find interesting and (because of the long form comment format which FB subsequently copied) engaging deeper with them, G+ is also very convenient for sharing new things, hell if you use Gmail,GoogleMaps,Picasa,Youtube its just really easy to share stuff.
In P.C. post conclusion i’d like to say that i want BOTH sites to flourish as it gives US choice and makes THEM stay on their toes…thanks to Twitter we’ve got a better Facebook know what i mean?

1) F8 and the new design of Facebook, which will be called Timeline strongly shows that they just have a tremendous head start in social network world.
Timeline is a gimmick; nothing more. Timeline exemplifies the difference between G+ and FB. Facebook is focused on the past. Google+ is focused on the future.
2) Facebook Does have a search provider on their side. Even though it’s not the biggest one, having Bing on their side may perhaps lead to playing a huge role in how “Social” meets “Search” This is what Google is trying to do right now.
If this is the way of things doesn’t Google have the leg-up being that they OWN their search engine. Let’s add to that the fact that Google+ is Google and they are bringing all their disparate ventures under one moniker. FB docs is a shadow of what Google Docs is. FB has no financial connection … Google Finance. FB doesn’t have a power calendare .. Google does. FB just got mail but it pales in comparison to Gmail. Google has YouTube, News, Shopping, Maps, News etc. FB has crap.
FB users are pedatic. They are primarily concerned with themselves. The content is basic. There is limited commenting and what commenting there is , for the most, uneducated and uninformed.
The initial growth of G+ has nothing do do with it’s humongous platform of users because the initial growth was by invitation only. Compare FB initial, invitation only growth to G+’s and the growth factors are vastly disparate, in G+’s favor. G+ hit 50M users. Facebook took 3.63 years to reach that. The beauty of Google+ is the leverage they have in the other properties they own and their intelligence to bring them into the fold. FB has NOTHING like that.
People don’t give a shit about the FB story. It has nothing to do with why people are on FB. People loving (if they love a theft story) the FB story has nothing to do with the creation of the movie. MONEY has everything to do with the creation of the movie and getting all those saps that bought into the FB story to part with their money.
In closing, G+ is not trying to “replace” FB. G+ is providing an alternative to the pedantic, self-absorption that typifies FB.
Admit it. Facebook is dying 🙂
Facebook has become the new MySpace. Too many bells and whistles and no substance.

Recent changes in faceBook may give benefit to google+, otherwise faceBook will be the winner.
rubbish I joined facebook a few years ago after wife suggested it. Oh and i’m real tech savy, but me and her seldom go on anymore. If were not gor the sites let you login with a facebook account i would drop it. My friends seldom use it anymore either. Google+ however is a lot cleaner your stream isn’t all ad and game notices. Btw i’m using a android phone to write this look how long it took to surpass apple. Google makes great products and as there motto says don’t be evil.
Thank you for your blog article. Cool.
Thank you for posting such a useful website. your weblog happens to be not just informative but also very stimulating too.
Thanks for the article post. Thanks Again. Really Cool.
1. Timeline suck!
2. I hate Facebook story. I think orkut deserved that. Media support Facebook, which I think Mark has support. Perhaps in Jewish community.
3. Bing suck, too! I never leave Google. It is extraordinary, except the fact that in Google Maps, he was paid off by Arabs to remove Persian Gulf from the map, Arabs in recent years are trying to falsify Persian Gulf to Arabian Gulf. It wasn’t like Google. They say it is because of dispute, but changing a map? UN certified map? It’s like to remove Israel name, because there is dispute. Would Google do that?
4. Actually, I think the idea of the circling didn’t work out. It has to follow privacy more. And the coloring is not attractive. Fonts are too big, and you can’t have a glass at all happening at once. Facebook was and is user enemy, too. But users have learnt how to use them. I think in phones Google+ is better.
